By October, fall sports are in full swing. Between soccer practice, dance rehearsals, and Friday night games, a lot of South Florida families feel like there's no room left in the week for anything else — including reading help. As a mom, I get it.
I hear this a lot from parents: "I know my child needs support, but I don't know when we'd even fit it in." Here's how I've seen families make it work:
How do busy South Florida families fit in reading tutoring schedules actually allow for?
The truth is, you don't need to add hours to your week. Most of my families fit tutoring into one of these windows:
A short session right after school, before practice starts
A weekend morning slot, while everyone's still fresh
A virtual session in the evening, so there's no extra driving at all
Reading tutoring doesn't have to be another thing added on top of an already full schedule. It just has to be placed where it actually fits.
Do shorter, more frequent sessions still work?
Yes — and for a lot of kids, they work better. A tired child after a long day of school and practice won't get much out of a long session anyway. Shorter, focused sessions two or three times a week often build skills faster than one long session, because the brain gets more chances to practice.
What if my child is worn out from sports by the time we get to tutoring?
This is real, and it's worth planning around. I build sessions to match a child's energy — some days that means more movement and hands-on practice, other days it means a quieter, calmer pace. The goal is always the same: real progress, without adding stress to an already busy season. We also work with our families to offer flexibility to make scheduling easier on parents.
As one of our Plantation moms put it, her daughter jumped two levels on her benchmark assessments — and she loves that we're always willing to work around schedule changes, so tutoring never becomes one more thing fighting for time with practice. We strive to make getting help your child as easy as possible without adding extra stress to your plate.
